Introduction

After a series of technological innovations brought about by the Industrial Revolution in the 20th century, machines emerged to diversify the textile sector. Combined with the growing demand and the development of new products to manufacture clothing and accessories, the textile industry inputs known as Non-Woven Fabrics (NON-WOVEN) gain visibility in the market in their most varied applications (Godoy, 2013). Faced with such innovations, textile groups that did not consider traditional production methods, such as spinning and knitting, were called Non-Woven Fabrics. These are currently known for the presence of fibrous structures arranged in different directions. In this sense, the raw material used in its production processes will determine its end (Ladchumananandasivam, 2003).

Considering its low production cost and its specific characteristics, NON-WOVEN has become indispensable in various social areas, from its use in the traditional clothing segment, shirting, as well as in surgical uniforms in hospitals, and in the current reality, especially during the pandemic of COVID-19, originating from SARS-COV-2, in the use of masks and hospital accessories such as gowns, caps, and foot protection, also extending to use in fashion collection shows. However, as it is a little explored area and presents a limited number of academic-scientific articles, it was understood that there is a need to
discuss, improve, and explore through research the knowledge about the object in question, at the same time contributing to the discourse promoted by the integration of the textile areas with the clothing area. Therefore, this paper aims to identify the knowledge of students and employees at the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Rio Grande do Norte - Campus Caicó (Brazil) regarding the technical properties of Non-Woven Fabrics.
